                                                                            BOYS FOOTBALL
Although ending the season with a loss to Mission in the semi-finals, Lowell showed great improvement in just one year. Congratulations!

Did you know that SFUSD athletes attained higher GPAs than the SFUSD average in virtually every conceivable measurement.  Go to the www.cifsf.org for more information on this 2010-2011 study. The hardworking Lowell athletes deserve our support.

Congratulations to Timothy and Nicholas Werby

They designed a project for the EDF sustainable Design Challenge. They were the only participants currently enrolled in a high school, the others being graduate school level or professors of engineering. They reached the final level of the competition and went to Paris to confer directly with the judges. Out of the 31 other project designs that reached the final level of the competition, only eight were declared winners. Timothy and Nicholas were among the eight that won. They are currently working with the School of Engineering at U.C. Berkeley to produce a prototype which will be displayed at the 2012 Olympics in London and then hopefully mass manufactured and deployed around the world. This is truly Lowell! (J. Raya)

Lowell High School students achieved the highest API (Academic Performance Index) scores this year in comparison to all other high schools in the City. Lowell’s API score for 2010 was 954, for 2009 was 949, and Lowell continues to be one of the highest scoring schools in the state by every measure.

More important than comparing and contrasting to other schools, though, is the recognition that the API score is a reflection of the hard work and dedication that our students, teachers, administrators and parents continue to bring to the process of education. That is the goal, and we can't reach it without everyone's support.

For more information on the API and what it measures, please visit the California Department of Education website.
