WHAT: Healthy Stress v. Harmful Stress -- Is there a Difference? Where's the Line?*
WHEN: Thursday, April 21st @ 6:30pm WHERE: Steve Silver Theater High school can be a stressful time for any student – especially at Lowell. All stress, however, is not alike. What is healthy? How can stress become harmful and in what ways? What are some of the warning signs of unhealthy stress? Are there long term consequences? What can we, as parents and adults, do to help our students? Join us for an informative panel discussion with counselors from our Wellness Center and experts in teenagers and stress. |

WHEN: Thursday, February 25th @ 6:30pm WHERE: Room 70 We invite you to join us for a presentation and discussion about Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (“PBIS”). Hear how Lowell administrators, teachers, students, and staff are planning to implement PBIS to reduce stress and create a more welcoming environment at Lowell. Guest speakers include Margaret Peterson (Lowell Assistant Principal of Pupil Services), student leaders, teachers and staff. |

WHAT: NAVIGATING THE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS PROCESS*
WHEN: THURSDAY DECEMBER 10, 7:00 PM WHERE: ROOM 70 (CHOIR ROOM) For parents of 12th graders: Now that UC applications have been submitted, is there anything left to do? What about non-UC schools? What resources are out there to help pay for college? How do I talk to my student without stressing out? For parents of 11th graders: Does my student need to visit colleges? When? What should she look for? What are Subject Tests and does my student need to take them? Should my student look at private schools? For parents of 9th and 10th graders: Is it too early to start thinking about the college admissions process? Why? Lowell counselors, VICCI center volunteers, and parents of Lowell alums will share their knowledge, experiences and tips about the college selection and admissions process. |

PPS: Thanks to our panelists for sharing a portion of their evening with a packed house (SRO) of Lowell parents last night. After a long day of work or rushing around on a rainy day, they were incredibly dynamic and engaging. What: Navigating Math at Lowell*
When: Wednesday October 7, 2015 @ 7pm - 8pm (or following the general meeting) Where: Choir Room 70 What is Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Math and how is it implemented at Lowell? What are the different math pathways? What is "AP Calculus BC?" The Head of the Lowell Math Department, Tom Chambers, and longtime Lowell Math Teacher, Karl Hoffman, discuss these and other topics, and will take your questions.
